Sarah Dillard, Founder

Sarah Dillard has been working in education for over a decade. Kaleidoscope grew out of her interest in making high school more practical and interesting. She’s been on the policy team at the U.S. Department of Education, the founding team at the National Math and Science Initiative, and the management team at Quad Learning. She started her career at Bain & Company. Sarah is a magna cum laude graduate of Duke University, where she was an A. B. Duke Scholar and won the Holton Prize for education research. She is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School and the Harvard Kennedy School where she was a Reynolds Fellow and a George Fellow. She is a trustee at Capital City Public Charter School and an emeritus member of the alumni advisory council at Harvard's Center for Public Leadership. Her writing has been published in the Harvard Business Review and The 74.


Edie Abraham-Macht, curriculum developer

Edie Abraham-Macht is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Yale University, where she majored in American Studies as an Education Studies Scholar. Edie designed the Kaleidoscope curriculum for the Anthropology unit of Social Sciences for Social Problems. She is a much beloved Kaleidoscope instructor and teaches our Identity & Prejudice and Social Sciences for Social Problems courses. She particularly enjoys facilitating critical textual analysis and high-quality discussions!

Her poetry has been published in Yale and professional publications including the Yale Daily News Magazine, Yale Literary Magazine, Aerie International, and Hanging Loose Magazine. Edie is a graduate of St. Ann’s in Brooklyn.

Katharina Matro, Lead, Social Sciences for Social Problems

Katharina is an award winning teacher and historian. She has a B.A. in French and history from Amherst College, summa cum laude, an M.A. in international economics from SAIS, and a Ph.D. in history from Stanford University. She is currently a teacher at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, where she teaches world history, economics, and now, Social Sciences for Social Problems. Katharina loves that this class helps and encourages students to read “hard” texts and pushes them to think deeply about them. Starting in January 2021, Katharina will serve as a member of the American Historical Association Council’s Teaching Division.


Giovanna Eichner, Curriculum Developer

Gio is a graduate of Boston College where she received degrees in history and German and went on to a teaching Fullbright in Germany. She is also an alum of the very first Kaleidoscope summer program, and she has been involved in many roles since then including developing the Political Science unit of Social Sciences for Social Problems and is currently the editor of that course.
